Picturesque site on East Loch Lomond
Sallochy is situated on the Eastern shores of Loch Lomond and offers stunning views across the loch towards the Arrochar Alps. The small beach is a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the scenery and the 200 year old oak woodland is a peaceful place to stroll and spot some local wildlife.
Sallochy is a great resting place after a long day of walking on the West Highland Way and an idyllic setting to enjoy a picnic or barbecue by the water.
The Campsite
We no longer operate a campsite at Sallochy.

Walking trails
Oakwood trails that pass a lochside pebbly beach
The trails here wind through tranquil oakwoods that are over 200 years old. This is a great place to watch for wildlife, including secretive roe deer and noisy jays. Enjoy a picnic beside the loch or take to the water – this is a popular place for wild swimming.
Lower Green Route
Discover great views over the Tweed Valley on this accessible path around Glentress. The Multi-user Trail connects the Glentress Gateway to the café, bike shop, skills area, taster trails and the start of all walking and mountain biking routes.
Mostly wide, smooth and flat gravel surface. Some uneven gravel sections, with potentially muddy areas. Short moderate slopes and one steep ramp. Includes two road crossings.
The Douglas fir trees on ‘Dougie Bank’, just above the ponds, are nearly 100 years old. Some of the trees from this part of the forest now sail the high seas as masts on tall ships. Douglas fir from Glentress has also been used to build the café and toilet block at Glentress Peel.

Grade - Black: Severe
Expect a long and steep climbs, descents, and jumps. Numerous hazards including drop-offs and severe features. Rapid rate of surface change. Commitment required.

The West Highland Way, Scotland’s best known long distance trail, stretches 96 miles from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William. Walk a stretch of it at Sallochy and get a taste for the adventure.
