Find out what activities need permission and how to apply
If you’d like to carry out an activity on land we manage – like filming, drone flying, holding an event or gold panning – you may need permission. This section explains what’s allowed, what needs a permit and how to apply.
Before you apply
Check the Scottish Outdoor Access Code – many low-impact recreational activities need no permit.
Apply at least 10 working days in advance (longer for large events or commercial filming).
Fees vary by activity, location and scale; we’ll confirm costs when we review your application.
We’ll acknowledge your application within two working days.
Straight-forward requests are usually processed within 10 working days; complex or multi-site activities may take longer.
Once approved, we’ll email your permit, outline any conditions and (if relevant) send an invoice for fees.
Keep a copy of your permit with you during your activity.
