Loch Morlich’s Beach Award one of the best yet
Local Forestry and Land Scotland staff in Glenmore have thanked visitors to Loch Morlich for being instrumental in the site winning a 2019 Beach Award earlier this year.
Organised by the Keep Scotland Beautiful charity, the awards assess all of Scotland’s main visitor beaches against thirty criteria that look at information provision, water quality, beach safety, beach management, facilities and access, and cleanliness.
Brian Duff, for the FLS team in Glenmore said;
“This award is a great testament to all the hard work that we put in to looking after the site.
“It is a hugely popular site that, thanks to the sheer numbers of visitors we get, can be quite challenging to manage.
“Luckily, the majority of our visitors care for the place as much as we do and are careful to leave the beach as clean and tidy as they found it.
“Their conscientious approach makes our jobs that much easier – and was certainly a factor in Loch Morlich winning this award.”
The Loch Morlich assessor found no issues under any of the criteria and highlighted the excellent management at the site, the excellent information signage and interpretation signage.
Other highlights picked out for praise as examples of best practice included the Visitor Centre, well maintained, clean toilets, picnic benches, recycling facilities and easy access and consideration of public transport users and cyclists.
Every beach considered for an award is visited (unannounced) by a trained assessor unannounced between 1 June to the 15 September 2019 to ensure that the beach meets the award criteria.
