Glen Croe (A83) Landslip stabilisation work
Traffic management at Glen Croe on the A83 has been removed (2nd of May) thanks to the completion of landslip protection work at the roadside.
The catchpit - large enough to capture the volume generated in the original landslip at the end of January – has been installed to collect any residual material from the landslip channel over the coming months and years.
FLS Planning Manager, John Hair, said;
“The minor delay arising from lockdown issues with supplier turned out not to be as long as had thought and we got the job completed and traffic management lifted a couple of days sooner than we’d anticipated.
“As an additional failsafe, we designed the catch pit with two outflow pipes – one above the other – so that we’ll know, when water flows from the upper pipe rather than the lower pipe, that the pit has become silted up and needs to be cleaned out.
“I’d like to say thank you to the team for doing such a fantastic job, and doing that job safely both in terms of the engineering works and with regards to their adoption of COVID-19 health guidance to keep themselves and their colleagues safe.”
Work on the top road is ongoing, with concrete reinforcement now visible at the first of the four sections of forest road that are to be strengthened.
