Forestry and Land Scotland to review plans for Carron Valley Forest
Local residents and other interested parties are being invited by Forestry and Land (FLS) to offer their feedback on long-term management plans for Carron Valley Forest.
The new Land Management Plan, which will replace the current plan that expires next year, covers a 30 square kilometre area that surrounds the Carron Valley reservoir and lies 12km south west of Stirling.
Made up mostly of productive forest that produces a lot of softwood timber, the area is also important for recreation and provides habitat for several important native species such as red squirrel, osprey and pine marten.
Sandy Davidson, Planning Forester for FLS, said;
“Our management plans are reviewed every ten years to ensure that the work we do will continue to effectively meet our long-term objectives
“All of the elements that are important in Carron Valley will continue to feature in our plans but we are also looking at how best to improve the forest to make it more resilient.
“For example, this will include building on work we are currently undertaking in response to the arrival of the disease Phytophthora ramorum into the forest
“As with all FLS land management plans, we look to get feedback on our proposals before finalising any plans, and would like to invite local people and regular visitors to let us know their views.
“You can either come along to a drop-in session and speak to us to find out more or, if you can’t make it on the day, take part online.”
FLS is consulting on the proposals from now until the 10th of June.
The drop-in session will be held at the Carron Valley Main Car Park (FK6 5JH) on Saturday 31 May between 10am and 1pm.
Parking will be free for the duration of the event and directions to the forest can be found on the FLS website.
