Feedback sought on ten-year management plan for Patna forest

Forestry and Land Scotland is inviting people living in and around Patna village to offer their views on the development of a revised Land Management Plan for Patna forest.  

The forest, which is made up of two adjacent woodlands and covers an area the size of around 700 football pitches, is to the west of Patna on the A713 between Dalmellington and Ayr and is mostly conifer forest - with some broadleaved species.

The plan’s main focus is on sustainable timber production, sensitive landscape design, forest resilience, woodland diversification and local communities.

Planning Forester, Laura Green, said;

“As with all of our land management plans, we’re looking at how we manage this site over the next ten years and also outline our ideas for the ten years beyond that.

“It’s really about getting the most out of the forest both in terms of the timber it produces and in how it contributes more broadly to biodiversity and habitat provision. We’d be happy to explain the opportunities and issues, hear some ideas, and get some constructive feedback from members of the public.

“With COVID-19 still impacting on how we all work, we are not holding public meetings or events but we are putting everything online so that people can look at it and give feedback at their leisure.

The consultation will remain open until Thursday 24th February 2022.
