Facelift for visitor facilities at Scotland’s finest glen
Visitors to Glen Affric, one of the most beautiful places in Scotland, will be able to enjoy their experience even further following upgrades to facilities.
Forestry and Land Scotland along with local contractors have worked to improve two viewpoints at Dog Falls, increase the capacity of the visitor car park, install a new year-round toilet and upgrade paths in the area.
The work, part funded by the Scottish Government’s Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund via the Highland Council and Visit Scotland, will help provide high quality experiences for the rising visitor numbers.
FLS Visitor Services Manager Paul Hibberd said:
“Glen Affric continues to draw more and more visitors each year. The upgrades to the viewpoints will allow people to have a better and safer view of Dog Falls while the new section of path through the woodland provides a safer and far more pleasant alternative to walking along the road.
“The project has increased the capacity of Dog Falls car park and we have replaced the aging composting toilet with a more reliable year-round alternative.
“The upgrades and new work will enhance peoples’ experience of this stunning Scottish landscape of perfectly placed lochs, mountains and a wonderful mix of pine, birch and rowan trees.”
Work on fully replacing the footbridge that gives access the Coire Loch Trail and the Dog Falls Trail is due to be completed by the end of April.
As the final stages of work on the bridge is finished, we are asking visitors to be mindful of any diversion signs and avoid work areas. Both the Dog Falls viewpoints and Coire Loch are accessible with more information on our website.
