Countesswells woods off-limits until New Year
Forestry and Land Scotland’s team in Aberdeenshire are advising members of the public that Countesswells woods is to be closed for two months.
The closure, which affects the carpark and the trails, will come into effect on 30 October and will give the FLS team time to fell some potentially dangerous trees.
Neil Taylor, for FLS in the area, said;
“Last winter, a storm blew down some of the big conifer trees near the car park.
“Unfortunately the remaining spruce trees are now at risk of being blown down too.
“Public safety is a top priority for us so to keep visitors safe - and to prevent any further damage to the car park and trails - we need to fell the trees earlier than we had originally planned.
“We expect the work will take around two months to complete and we would strongly urge people to not enter the site at all during this time.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause and hope that visitors might take the opportunity to visit one of our other local woodlands.”
Alternative sites include Foggieton and Tyrebagger woods
The car park and trails will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, and updates will be posted on the Forestry and land Scotland website.
