Consultation open on Garrogill and Screel woodlands

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has opened two consultations on Land Management Plans that map out proposals for two Dumfries and Galloway woodlands for the next 20 years.

The consultations are for –

  • Screel land management plan - covers Screel Hill, Potterland and The Doach, which are south of Castle Douglas and
  • Garrogill land management plan - covers an area east of Moffat It is a typical upland conifer plantation.

FLS Planning Forester, Robin Fuller, said;

“We are currently revising these plans and reviewing our management objectives for these sites for  the next ten years, and giving an outline of how we might proceed in the ten years after that.

“Our general aims include to enhance productivity, expand native woodland, minimise the presence and impact of tree diseases and create forests that are more diverse while at the same time improving their conservation value for key species such as black grouse.

“We’re also intending to maintain these woodlands’ appeal to visitors and to the local communities.

“Unfortunately, due to the situation with COVID-19 we will not be hosting community drop-in event so as an alternative we’ve put all of the relevant documents on to our website.

“Anyone who for any reason is unable to access the documents online can contact the local team on 0131 360 5500 to learn about what we are proposing and give us feedback.

“We’d really like to get as much local feedback and input as possible so I’d encourage everyone with an interest to take a look and send their comments to us.”

The consultation will run for six weeks until the end of November.
